This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: John 14:6

“The Jesus way, the Jesus truth, and the Jesus life require something far greater than clinging to good and refusing evil. No, God requires forgiveness and relationship, and this is exactly what Jesus offers to all who follow him.” –John Ryser, Fruit of the Vine

Query: For whom are you living? Or whom are you loving?

One Wish

Today’s choice would be

that we all sit together

for one more dinner of bouillabaisse—

the red saffron broth

filled with fine mysteries of sea life

so different

from our gravity-bound earth life.

We can only give thanks

that they swam to net to mouth

in moon and candlelight.

Yesterday’s choice would be

for my girl

so that as I left

she would always know

her mother’s love

like a cashmere shawl around her shoulders

and wear it like a warrior’s shield

and use it for the magic

it will ever be.

Tomorrow’s wish

would be that

all the love-filled wishes

come true.
