This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: Mark 5:24–34

“Her touch caught Jesus’ attention. He responded to her touch, affirming her faith and acknowledging her healing. I often ask God to give me eyes to see and ears to hear what God sees and hears. I want to be more aware of my surroundings.” –Nancy Almquist, Fruit of the Vine

Query: Might we choose to be more than aware, to reach out and affirm others: “I see you”?

Nothing Is More Like God Than the Ocean

Nothing is more like God than the ocean.

See, she offers her breast in every wave

her milk foams at its crest,

each wave an endless offering of nurture.

And the depths are her womb.

All things are born of water,

the ten thousand things rise from the sea.

She is the great Always-Pregnant one,

Always-Birthing, Always-Mother.

–Carol Bialock, Coral Castles
