This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: Luke 19:1–10

“How often do we say to others, ‘Let’s get together,’ and then never follow through? How often might we be missing an opportunity to demonstrate love and kindness to others?” –Nancy Almquist, Fruit of the Vine

Query: How are you offering kindness to others?

To Touch the Face of God

Pick a likely looking star

Wonder for a moment if you’ve chosen a planet

Be still

Hold the wind on one side of your face

Be

more still

Check your compass course carefully

Let go of what is keeping you

from being fully present

Settle your vessel into a steady rhythm

Wave and swell, gust and lull

Breathe

Look calmly into the darkness for what there is to see

Look calmly into the darkness

For what there is to see

–Bethany Lee, from “How to Navigate at Night” in The Breath Between
