This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: Psalm 119:105, 129–133

“We remain connected to the source through active participation in worship and regular sharing together as members of a meeting or congregation who seek to follow Jesus’ teachings. The writer of Hebrews gives us this charge: ‘And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together’ (Hebrews 10:24–25).” –Curt Ankeny, Fruit of the Vine

Query: How are you connecting with Christ this week?

Conversation: Young Woman/Old Woman

She said she swims in God.

“It’s like swimming.”

I held my tongue.

I wanted to tell her about floundering,

about drowning,

about arid autumns, and all the waterless ways.

But you cannot tell a summer swimmer

about December ice;

nor how, in the spring of her elder years

the pool where she swam in her youth

will be all the world’s oceans wide.

–Carol Bialock, Coral Castles
