This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: 1 John 1:5–7; 1 John 2:7–10

“The idea that Christ’s light dwells in each person allows us to minister to any of the people we may meet. I like to think of the pilot light in our lives as the Holy Spirit, leading us and motivating us to act in loving ways.” –Curt Ankeny, Fruit of the Vine

Query: In what way does your pilot light inspire you to love others in a tangible way?

These branches

in your way are just

doing their job

They don’t grow here

to block your path

It’s the nature of fear to stop you

Hold you still

Keep you from the deeper way

Don’t fight

Clear your way with love

Gentle steps and slow

Wonders await further in

–Bethany Lee, The Breath Between
