This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: Titus 2:7

“We all pass on a heritage to the next generation. Good and bad, we give and receive a bit of both. A positive legacy establishes a strong life foundation; a negative legacy can be generationally destructive.” –Flo Harvey, Fruit of the Vine

Query: Are you mindful of your examples and actions, the legacy you are leaving?

At Summer’s End

We who sleep through the nights

May forget to count them

And rain fell on the earth

Forty days and forty nights

But the watchers, the vigil-keepers

Those who toil in the shadows

And the new-made mothers

Never forget

That half a day is darkness

And there was evening

And there was morning

The first day

Half a tree is underground

Half a breath is exhalation

Receive

Release

Receive

Release

The Son of Man will be

Three days and three nights

In the heart of the earth

Be not dismayed at the waning light

–Bethany Lee, The Breath Between
