This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: Psalm 103:1–3

“I find it interesting that David would declare, ‘He heals all your diseases,’ when his infant son was not spared. Perhaps David had come to believe God’s healing encompasses more than our physical comfort.” –Kay Wilson, Fruit of the Vine

Query: Have you heard God’s voice while suffering?

I will tell you,

while you can still hear,

a fairy tale, and you’ll remember

always that together we saved

villages from wild beasts

and turned foul water

into clear tumults of waterfalls

and that we knew how to

cry for the children.

I will write you poems that

you’ll find in your shoes

and under the sheets,

stuck on your belt buckle

and between the pages of cookbooks.

You will know

you are loved between time,

this life, the last, the next.

–Peg Edera, from “I Promise You” in Love Is Deeper Than Distance
