This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: John 3:16

“I am reminded again that my call as a follower of Christ is to be like Jesus, to be a Sermon on the Mount believer and practitioner.” –Pam Ferguson, Fruit of the Vine

Query: How does your life reflect God’s grace?

Some days

I forget how

To be a poet

At times when I

Have done too much

And rested too little

When I am worried

And my fretful mind

Is consumed

With everything that might be

And nothing that is

My pen scribbles

And runs dry

And I can’t find the well within

On those days

I can still feel the empty place

Inside

A room with no doors

Where there is calm

Quiet

At the center

Nothing to knock on

No one to let you in

Some days I remember how to walk through walls

–Bethany Lee, in The Breath Between
