This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: Mark 8:22–26

“Overwhelmed at all the data to sort through, we settle for easy answers. It’s understandable. But if we want to live in God’s wisdom and become people energized by God’s call on our lives, we have to learn deep work.” –Andy Stanton-Henry, Fruit of the Vine

Query: Are you growing in your ability to do the work of wisdom?

Seek My Face

Children of earth, wherever your bodies rest,

direct your selves out with the breathing tide.

Have no anxiety for the far shore before you,

no regret for the near shore behind you.

Peer down for the deep, living darkness below;

look up high for the darkness beyond the stars.

Bob in fear and love beyond the toll of bells.

Seek my face on the earth’s wild water.

Blow out on a current in the spirit of the Galilean

who handpicked water men from an arid land.

The sea is love, and this is truth: the word spread

deep, as the volume of the body, and the eye of love.

–Jeffrey Johnson, This Will Be a Sign
