This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: Mark 8:22–26

“Maybe it was faith, or maybe he was desperate for change. Whatever his feelings or motives, the man took the risk, said yes to the invitation, and his life was changed forever.” –Andy Stanton-Henry, Fruit of the Vine

Query: Do you trust Jesus to lead you to good places?

Oh, green western woods

and eastern filbert tree geometry

Your light never fails at perfecting

Filtered through the fog in fall

Gently golden on late summer evenings

A crisp, spring spotlight shines

on this year’s crimson clover crop

Hush, we will not speak of winter

for winter is the season of silence

From behind the willowed brook

comes the scent of surrender

Once, you sheltered doe and fawn

beneath your holy dome

Once, and never since

though you call this grace to mind each time

and breath lifts away to follow

–Bethany Lee, from “At the Rise in the Road” in The Breath Between
