This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: Philippians 2:1–11

“We are free to be reconciled to God and to one another.... This is freedom from judging ourselves and others, walking in the Light of Christ that reaches out to enfold and transform us.” –Fruit of the Vine

Query: Would you describe the primary quality of your life with Christ as freedom?

But I must keep trying

to say these things because

you inhabit them too

you have your own

moments of wonder

so powerful you can almost not

bear to look at them

We are mystics all

Let us look together

I’ll go first and you can look with me

then I will gaze with you into

the bright sun of your own knowing

–Bethany Lee, from “Answering the Question” in The Breath Between
