This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: Psalm 19:1–4

“We’ve all, at some time in our lives, sensed God’s presence through the beauty of nature, whether we were standing on a cliff overlooking the ocean, under a starry night sky on the Bolivian altiplano, or in the middle of a mountain forest. The psalms tell us that the witness of creation that exists throughout the world speaks to all people.” –Nancy Thomas, Fruit of the Vine

Query: How does God speak to you through creation? What does God say to you?

The eternal Spirit

floods the universe.

It is the cause of existence.

Demands nothing,

offers life freely,

has no need.

It is available to all,

not as ruler,

yet holds all power.

It teaches us this:

become great

by being a servant.

–Jim Teeters, in Because of This
