This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: Luke 6:26–38

“When Christ abides in our hearts, it means we feel toward others as Christ feels toward them.” –Fruit of the Vine

Query: Remember today that your life belongs to God. What does this mean to you?

Prelude

Elohim snort and pace over the face

of nothing, sobbing oceans, blowing tides

and breakers into hysterical rolls

and roaring miles of spray and foam.

They bellow and huff, red-eyed and urgent,

big bulls aching for flesh, and wild for blood.

Over that brine of lonely tears, Elohim set lights,

two courting gifts to shine on their dream stage.

With the recovering sea reflecting their faces,

they offer their fantasies, one by one.

In a circle, by turns, images in the minds

of overheated Elohim appear in earth tones

and potential, and are declared good.
