This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: John 12:20–36

“Jesus said, ‘And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.’ And the closer we are drawn to Christ, the closer we are drawn to one another.” –Fruit of the Vine

Query: Do you find that as your love for God grows, so does your love for others?

Sanctus

Holy holy holy day without a dawn,

we, the six-winged seraphim,

are weary of glory going on and on.

Lord, lay down upon an eon!

Cool off this eternal flame house

Simmer, steam and rest.

We intoned that, did our best, but

without a hint of dimming for relief.

So, we, with the Almighty,

remain eyes-in-burning-eye. Amen.

Wings of cherubs brush our faces

with their insulated feathers,

stirring stars and spinning wheel

around the throne in endless noon.

High and holy evermore!

Light has won, daylight is heaven,

and we are on, past the fizzling sun.
