This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: Ephesians 2:11–18

“Being on the outside of a wall is distasteful to anyone on the inside, but Paul says that’s not how it is any longer. In Christ, the wall between insiders and outsiders is destroyed.” –Phil Baisley, Fruit of the Vine

Query: In spite of this teaching, there continue to be many – both inside and outside the church – who are alone, excluded. Why do you think this is? What can you do to break down walls that separate or isolate?

Song for an Old Woman

It is not my fault that I am holy.

It’s all God’s doing.

When I wasn’t looking he tricked me onto the path,

knocked me off balance

so that I gasped for help,

and threw me onto my knees.

How could I help it that I landed

on Paradise Road?

–Carol Bialock, Coral Castles
