May 18-24: Doctrine or a friend?
Was it a person or a set of beliefs that attracted you to your church?

It wasn't either one. It was the worship experience as a whole, including the Eucharist and the ancient liturgy of the Church. After that, it was the opportunity to serve and the way this group of people accepted us. So, the attraction was more holistic. Good question.

The prominent person was my mother, but some confusion came later: Isn't Jesus the Prince of Peace? How did He become for most Christians a god of war? How could the loving and peaceful Jesus as lived by the early Christians, be the forerunner to the fearful hatred that creates so much warring by Christians today? Then, as a student of Arthur Roberts and later as an opponent of the Vietnam war (which was much applauded by most Christians) I experienced a bit of George Fox's revelation: "There is one, even Christ Jesus..." I realized that I should follow Jesus, not the the warlike Christian world.

A person to start. But that would never hold me at a church. My church, of 20 + years, is an incredible "thinking church." Beliefs are diverse, though not on the core issues; I love this.
