Do Christians have a responsibility to do something about poverty? If so, what?

I believe that Christians do have a great responsibility to help uplift those suffering from poverty. I look at it as investing in God's children that have fallen on tough times. We all should do what we can whether it be financially or serving meals at a homeless shelter. Our fellow Christians that have been greatly blessed with financial wealth should also pitch in because they have been blessed. They should see it as giving thanks to God for his blessings. Just my two cents.
