Emily Rose Neeson

Quaker spirituality has always been a thread woven through my life—albeit in different ways and at different stages of the journey. At the moment I'm living in Munich, Germany, working as a legal assistant by day and moonlighting as a runner, reader, writer, cyclist, and vegetarian cook by night. I do what I can to live simply, deeply, richly, and quietly, and to cultivate something that might be vaguely recognizable as a Quaker lifestyle (modern-urban style).
I studied literature at Malone College, Canton, Ohio, and medieval religion and literature at Boston University. I’m currently working on applications to law school (insert dramatic sigh of the over-stressed).
In the spirit of the “Sound of Music,” here are a few of my favorite things: Sunday afternoons, church potlucks, French-press coffee, long runs along the river (just this morning: the year's first snowflakes!), dark chocolate, folk music, books in every imaginable genre, drifting leisurely through art museums, and spending time with people I love.
I hope that my columns will be a way for us to reflect on how Quaker spirituality intersects with the mundane. What does it look like when my faith practice touches on my habits, my choices, my words, my daily existence? This is what I hope this Web site, and the opportunity to write for it, will help me explore.
