The great commission refers to publications about missions, evangelism, church planting, church growth, church health, and the leadership development that mobilizes these causes.

Spirituality refers to publications about encountering Christ in the deepest parts of our beings in such a way that it transforms our lives. Examples include spiritual growth through worship, prayer, meditation, contemplation, solitude, as well as other disciplines and practices that encourage people to obey all that Jesus commanded.

Social responsibility refers to publications about Christian reconciliation and compassion in regard to poverty, hunger, race relations, meeting human need, and overcoming injustice.

Friends content and curriculum refers to publications related to evangelical Friends theology, history, and Bible studies as needed for any and all age groups.

Writing Guidelines

Most writing for Barclay Press publications is done by assignment. We are unable to respond to writer inquiries that do not carefully follow the instructions and limitations of what we are able to review. Our primary categories for manuscripts are:

Books

Barclay Press has a publishing focus that creates the parameter of what we are able to publish.

Because we are unable to review unsolicited book proposals, we refer writers to Writer's Edge Manuscript Service. Writer's Edge is a screening service for Christian publishers in North America. Writers submit an abbreviated description of their book proposal plus sample chapters, The Writer's Edge evaluates it, and, if it looks promising, the publishers get a report about its availability. The writer pays for the evaluation ($95) and receives a short analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the book for this market.

Other good resources for writers are Sally Stuart's Christian Writers Market Guide and The ECPA Manuscript Service.

Fruit of the Vine

Writing for Fruit of the Vine (our daily devotional booklet) is done by assignment. Writers who desire to be considered may submit a sample daily devotional that is consistent with the Fruit of the Vine guidelines along with brief biographical information.

Curriculum

ILLUMINATE is a Bible study curriculum with lessons written by assignment.
